just for you

Alec first found his love of photography and discovered his photographers eye at the age of 11.  In high school he took a photography course that really opened his eyes to the world of photography. Shortly after high school he joined the Navy and bought his first 35 mm camera while going to school to become a jet engine mechanic and operator. It didn't take long for his peers to recognize his obvious outstanding talent as a photographer.  Alec served our country for 23 years in the Navy and the Air Force. Due to his talent he was chosen to be the command photographer at every duty station of his 23 year career. During that career Alec's photography experience has been very unique and one of a kind. Assignments included change of command ceremonies, photographs of military operations and foreign installations and dignitaries.  His photographs include Presidents of the United States, Pictures from being on deck of a ship in a hurricane and many varied and unique pictures from all over the world. While still in the military Alec was published several publications including Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords, The Stewart Flier, The Guard Times and the Poughkeepsie Journal to name a few.  Alec retired from the military in 2003 as a Chief Petty Officer. Shortly after retiring Alec was Hired by Con Edison in New York City and made the switch from film to digital photography. Also, after retiring Alec decided to Supplement his experience with formal education, Alec graduated from New York Institute of Photography in 2014.  His photographs have appeared in publications such as Hudson Valley and Southern Steel Magazines; as well as winning several amateur awards through the years. One of Alec's pictures is in the Library of Congress in Washington D.C.

What We Do

It is a fact that to truly capture an honest, natural portrait the client has to enjoy the experience in the moment. It should be fun for all!  Photography has evolved; it is no longer the impersonal sessions they once were. To create a relaxed environment that is conducive in capturing the right look and emotions of my clients I will travel to a favorite or comfortable place of theirs to create breathtaking images that will be treasured for generations

The Experience

To me it is paramount that the experience of working with Halstead Photography is professional and satisfying as well as enjoyable and fun. Its been my experience that pictures are just better when people are having fun. I have a unique ability to blend into a crowd during event photography. This gives me the ability to capture truly unique candid shots of people being truly themselves at your event.
